Snowmobiling is one of the best ways to see the backcountry around Jackson Hole in winter – miles of groomed trail, quiet forest, big open meadows and views you can't get from the road. But with half-day rides, full-day trips, electric sleds, private powder days and self-guided rentals to choose from, it's fair to ask: which one is right for me?

Here's a simple guide to picking the OFF-GRID snowmobile experience that fits your group, your schedule and your comfort level.

Start With Three Questions

1. Who's riding? First-timers, experienced riders, kids or a mix?
2. How much time do you have? Half-day rides run about 2–3 hours of riding. Full-day trips are up to 6.
3. Trail or powder? Groomed trails are smooth and scenic. Off-trail powder riding is for confident riders who want a challenge.

Never driven a sled before? You're in good company – lots of our guests are first-timers, and our guides will get you comfortable before you head out and set the pace for the group.

• Classic Half Day Trail Experience – The perfect introduction to snowmobiling, with big mountain views (weather permitting). $330 per driver / $295 per passenger.
• Half Day Turpin Meadow Trail Experience – A shorter ride from Turpin Meadow Ranch, about an hour north of Jackson. A great fit for first-time riders or anyone who wants a taste of the trails without committing a full day. $385 per driver / $335 per passenger.

Ready for a Full Day in the Mountains

If you've ridden before – or just want the full experience – a full day gets you deeper into the backcountry. Lunch is included.

• Full Day Turpin Meadow Trail Experience – Access to 600+ miles of groomed trails in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. $435 per driver / $325 per passenger.
• Full Day Palisades Trail Experience – Ride the Greys River area of the Bridger-Teton or McCoy Creek in the Caribou-Targhee, with a mix of on-trail and off-trail riding. $400 per driver / $300 per passenger. Here's why Alpine makes such a good basecamp for this side of the mountains.

For Experienced Riders and Private Groups

• Private Powder Riding Experience – For advanced riders who want deep snow and backcountry routes across 2.2 million acres. $2,400. Avalanche gear is available to rent for $45.
• Private Turpin Meadow Trail Experience – Your group, your guide, your pace. Customized for any skill level, from first-timers to seasoned riders. $1,500–$3,400.

Private trips are also the way to go for families with younger kids (more on that below) or groups celebrating something special.

Snowmobiling With Kids

Winter in Jackson Hole is a family trip for a lot of our guests, and there are good options for kids:

• Passengers 10 and older can ride along on our guided trips.
• Kids ages 6–9 can ride on a private trip.
• Kids Snowmobiling at The Ranch – Home of the first kid snowmobile track in Jackson Hole, where young riders can drive their own sled. $95.

Want to Ride on Your Own? Snowmobile Rentals

Experienced riders who'd rather explore on their own can rent from our Alpine or Turpin Meadow Ranch locations ($150–$235). Our staff will get you set up and point you to the best trails in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Renters must be 25 or older. A helmet is included, and suits and boots are available for $25.

Something a Little Different: Brooks Lake Spa Experience

Pair a day of riding with a little relaxation. The Brooks Lake Spa Experience is a full-day combination trip – $499 per person or $900 per couple. It's a great gift for a winter getaway.

What to Know Before You Go

• Drivers must be 16 or older with a valid driver's license.
• Gear: Guided trips include a snowmobile suit, boots and helmet.
• Dress warm. Wear a base layer, a fleece layer and an outer layer, plus thick wool or synthetic socks. Bring ski or snowmobile gloves and a balaclava. Skip the cotton.
• Pack: Hand and foot warmers, a beanie, extra socks, snacks, water, sunglasses and a bag to keep your phone dry.
• Timing: Morning half-day trips include a 7 a.m. pickup with drop-off around noon. Full-day trips pick up at 8 a.m. and drop off around 4 p.m. Afternoon half-day guests drive themselves.
• Lunch is included on morning and full-day trips. Let your guide know about any dietary needs the night before.

When to Book

Wyoming's trail grooming season generally runs from mid-December through April 1, depending on snowfall. Holiday weeks, Presidents' Day weekend and spring break tend to fill up first, so if your dates are set, it's worth booking now. Planning a trip with friends?
